Architectural Lighting, From Concept to Completion
HTM Lighting provides specialist exterior architectural lighting services for listed, historic and distinctive buildings across the UK.
From the first ideas through to installation and ongoing care, we provide a complete lighting solution shaped around the architecture, environment and individual requirements of each property.
Our services cover three key areas: Design. Installation. Maintenance.
Lighting Design
Designed Around Your Building
Great architectural lighting begins with understanding the building.
Every project starts by considering the architecture, its surroundings and what you want the lighting to achieve. We look at the features that define the property and how carefully positioned light can reveal them after dark.
Depending on the project, this could mean subtly highlighting historic stonework and architectural details, accentuating columns, arches and façades, defining rooflines and towers, or creating a more dramatic transformation for a prominent landmark.
Our lighting design considers factors including luminaire positioning, beam angles, intensity, colour temperature, optics, controls and the visibility of equipment during daylight hours.
For listed and historic buildings in particular, our objective is to create a scheme that feels considered and sympathetic to the architecture.
Installation
Bringing the Design to Life
The best lighting concept is only as successful as its installation.
HTM Lighting provides professional installation of exterior architectural lighting systems, translating the original design into a dependable finished solution.
Particular care is given to the positioning and integration of luminaires and associated equipment. On architecturally significant properties, we understand the importance of maintaining the building’s appearance during the day as well as creating the desired effect after dark.
We work to achieve an installation that is carefully considered, technically robust and appropriate for its environment.
From individual architectural features to comprehensive exterior schemes, each installation is approached with the same attention to detail.
Maintenance and Support
Protecting Your Lighting Investment
Architectural lighting is designed to be experienced for years, not just on the evening it is switched on.
Exposure to weather, environmental conditions and continual operation means exterior lighting systems benefit from appropriate inspection and ongoing care.
HTM Lighting provides maintenance and support to help preserve the performance, reliability and appearance of architectural lighting installations.
Services can include routine inspections, preventative maintenance, system checks, fault finding, repairs, adjustments and replacement of equipment where required.
By providing ongoing support after installation, we can help ensure the lighting continues to perform as originally intended.
Heritage and Listed Buildings
Modern Lighting. A Sensitive Approach.
Introducing contemporary lighting to historic architecture requires careful consideration.
HTM Lighting has a particular focus on lighting solutions for listed and heritage properties, where the visual impact of the installation can be just as important as the illumination itself.
Castles, cathedrals, churches, manor houses, monuments and other historic properties each present different challenges. Building materials, architectural features, mounting locations, surrounding environments and the significance of the property all need to be considered when developing an appropriate solution.
Our approach is centred on enhancing the architecture rather than overpowering it, using modern lighting technology to reveal the features and craftsmanship that already make the building exceptional.
Professional Architectural Lighting Technology
Performance Where It Matters
HTM Lighting works closely with Italian architectural lighting manufacturer Studio Due, providing access to professional lighting technology designed for demanding exterior and architectural applications.
The Studio Due range offers solutions for projects requiring everything from precise architectural accents and façade illumination to wide-area washes, long-distance projection and dynamic colour.
Studio Due technology has been used on internationally recognised architecture and landmarks including the Colosseum in Rome, The Kelpies in Scotland and the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich.
This breadth of technology allows us to select lighting around the requirements of the project rather than designing the project around a particular fitting.
Our Process
From First Conversation to First Light
Every project is different, but our approach remains straightforward.
- Understand
We begin with the building. We discuss your objectives, understand the property and identify the architectural features and practical considerations that will shape the project. - Design
We develop a considered lighting solution, selecting appropriate luminaires, positioning, optics and controls to achieve the desired effect. - Install
The lighting system is professionally installed, configured and commissioned to bring the design to life. - Maintain
Once operational, HTM Lighting can provide ongoing maintenance and support to help keep the installation performing at its best.
